The great evolution of science and technology and the IT boom is altering the way people look at things both abstract and concrete and has apparently swept the moral ideals away. People seem to be more interested in buing spaces in the sky than asking how a person standing next feels. There are so many things that we take for granted, well almost everything. We do not seem to realize that there are people who cannot see, hear or talk; People who can see, hear and talk but cannot walk or lend a hand because they do not have any... or who are blessed with it all but cannot seem to use them as they are deprived of the power of reasoning, We call them mentally ill. The time is ripe for us to stand up and lend them our hand and feet as we are a part of them as they are of us in this intricate website of the life which we call EXISTENCE... We welcome them with our arms wide open to our Halfway home. We take a vow to be the bridge that will lead the treated mentally ill people back to the society.
EXISTENCE halfway home for psycho-social rehabilitation of treated and controlled mentally ill persons has been set up under Centre For Mental Hygiene (an NGO under the Ministry of Social Justice and empowerment, Govt. of India).
EXISTENCE halfway home strives to facilitate and rehabilitate treated and controlled mentally ill persons after their discharge from Mental Hospitals and Asylums, so they can become productive citizens like any normal person. It will give them the dignity they deserve and shine bright telling each one of us that they exist. The project is aimed at providing vocational trainings as well as Counselling for them and their families, group therapies et al; to reintegrate with families and the society. The project is expected to also provide medical advice/treatment relating to their illness so that periodic or occasional psychiatric disturbances can be managed. The need for such halfway home is felt, as the community at large is still hesitant in accepting such persons into its fold. The halfway home provide services at the outmost depth of sincerity and dedication and with a promise that there will not be a discrimination of any kind as we stand upon equal ground, kings and subjects alike. And it is expected that the inmates would be able to get integrated into normal life within a reasonable period of time.
